Obituary of Arthur L. Davis

Mr. Arthur L. Davis, 90, of Clyde Street, Fort Plain, New York died Thursday, August 6, 2015 at Albany Medical Center. Art was born to Lelon Davis and Dora M. Hayes Davis on June 13, 1925. Lelon died in a drowning accident in 1928. Art became stepson to Ralph Abel in 1930. He lived in the Fort Plain area most of his life. He graduated from Fort Plain High School in 1943 and attended RPI, Troy, NY, University of South Carolina at Columbia, SC, and University of Georgia at Athens, GA. Joined the US Navy as an ROTC Cadet for pilot training. Served in the Navy until he was honorably discharged in 1946. His second wife Pauline Mereness Kneaskern, whom he married in 1969, survives Art. He is also survived by his sons, Larry of Albany, NY and Lon and daughter-in-law Gabrielle of Jensen Beach, FL, and his stepson William Kneaskern and wife Sherry of Summerfield, FL. He was employed by NY Central Railroad as ticket agent telegrapher for seventeen years. He was a corporate accountant for HP Snyder Mtg, as a bookkeeper for Shults Motor Sales of Canajoharie, assessor of the town of Minden, drove school bus, ran a bicycle sales and repair shop, and did bookkeeping for several small businesses. He was a charter member and an EMT in Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service. He was a member of the Fort Plain-Canajoharie Elks Lodge. Art loved to play Pinochle at the Fort Plain Senior Center where he served as Director for several years. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at 3:00pm at The Chapel of Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 2:00-3:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery.
