Mrs. Margaret E. Dickens, 95, formerly of Mapletown Road, Canajoharie, NY and most recently of Slingerlands, NY died Monday, September 14, 2015 at Albany County Residential Healthcare facility. Born on July 17, 1920 in Northwood, NY, she was the daughter of Frederick H. Wall and Jessie Orcutt Wall. She was a graduate of Canajoharie High School, Class of 1939. She spent most of her life in the Canajoharie area. Mrs. Dickens was a clerk for Beech-Nut's traffic department for over 20 years, retiring in February 1980. She was a member of Ames-Sprout Brook United Methodist Church, where she served as Trustee of the Church for 6 years. She was a member and treasurer of the United Methodist Women and was a former member of the Windy Ridge Home Bureau. She was married to George P. Dickens, who predeceased her. Mrs. Dickens was also predeceased by her daughter, Emily Schwarz in 2012; sisters, Bertha Swisher and Ella Garrison. Mrs. Dickens is survived by her son, Colonel Dickens of Selkirk, NY; granddaughter; 2 grandsons; 2 step-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at 2:00pm at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 1:00-2:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Nassau & Schodack Cemetery in Nassau on Friday, September 18, 2015 at 11:00am. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Margaret E. Dickens may be made to the charity of one's choice.
