Obituary of Marian V. Dingman

Mrs. Marian V. Dingman, 91, resident of VanHornesville, Fort Plain, and most recently Herkimer, New York, passed peacefully from this life to the next on Friday, October 23, 2015. She was rewarded after a brave struggle with cancer. Born on October 6, 1924 in Herkimer, NY, the daughter of William A. and Maude (Bush) Cook, she graduated from VanHornesville Central School in 1942. She married A. Everett Dingman on June 30, 1945. They enjoyed a loving and devoted union for 55 years, until his death on November 3, 2000. They had 2 children, Kenneth Everett, born on March 25, 1946 and Norma Jean, born on February 14, 1948. Marian was a member of the former St. James Lutheran Church in Starkville, where she was active, serving as Secretary of the St. James Guild, W.E.L.C.A., member of the Church Council, and a long time Sunday School teacher. She was also a Girl Scout Leader and a charter member of the VanHornesville Fire Department Ladies' Auxiliary. She worked for a time at the Luxuray Mill in Fort Plain and as an Election Inspector for Herkimer County. Marian enjoyed reading, working word puzzles, crocheting, and writing poetry. In addition to her children, Rev. Ken and Carol Dingman of Fort Plain, Jean and Darwin Brown of Chaumont, NY, she leaves behind 3 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, five brothers, William, Lester, Clifford, Kenneth, and Richard Cook; sister, Laura Douglas. A celebration of Life Service will be held for family and friends on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 1:00pm at the Freysbush Methodist Church. Burial will take place in VanHornesville Cemetery privately and at the convenience of the family.
