Mrs. Thelma Maria Van Patten Rose, 79, of Clark Ave., Fort Plain, New York, died Monday, February 25, 2008 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown. She was born on June 30, 1928 in Fairfield, NY, the daughter of John Smith and Maria Whitlock. She attended Stone Arabia Country School and Fort Plain High School. Thelma was a lifetime area resident. Mrs. Rose was a mother and homemaker in her own home in Fort Plain, NY. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church. Mrs. Rose was a dispatcher for Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service for many years. She enjoyed knitting, sewing and puzzles. Thelma's greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. Thelma was married to Kenneth R. Rose on June 18, 1983 at Salem United Methodist Church. She was predeceased by her first husband, Carl Van Patten, who she married on July 7, 1945 on February 27, 1978. Thelma was also predeceased by a son, Timothy Lee Van Patten on December 20, 2006; her infant sons, Dennis Lee Van Patten in 1951 and Lyndon Paul Van Patten in 1954; a step-son, Charles "Chuck" Rose and all of her 11 siblings. Thelma is survived by her three daughters, Linda Hoffman of St. Johnsville, NY, Karen Polmateer of St. Johnsville, NY and Lisa Buckbee of Alfred, ME; a son, Carl Van Patten, Jr. of Port Orange, FL; a step-daughter, Margaret McDonald of Warm Springs, GA. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
