Mr. Matthew Majewski, 99, of Haggerty Road, Cooperstown, New York died Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Bassett Healthcare of Coopestown. He was born on October 6, 1916 in Ludz, Poland. During World War II, he traveled to Germany then to Belgium. From Belgium, Mr. Majewski then traveled to the United States. In 1952 Mr. Majewski met Mary Czubkowski, and on September 25th 1952 they were married. He was a self-employed Dairy Farmer for over 20 years in Jordanville, NY. Before coming to the United States, he was a coal miner in Belgium. Mr. Majewski was of Pentecostal Faith. Work was his hobby. Many knew him as a very hardworking man. He and his wife, Mary had two sons, Peter and John, that they raised on the their family farm. Upon retirement Matthew and Mary settled in Cooperstown, NY, where they enjoyed their Golden Years together. Mr. Majewski is survived by his wife, Mary Majewski of Cooperstown, NY; sons, Peter Majewski of Lincoln Park, NJ, John Majewski of MN; and 4 grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 2:00pm at The Chapel of Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 1:00-2:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery.
