Obituary of Harvey V. King, Jr.

Harvey V. King, Jr., 77, of Garfield Street, Fort Plain, NY, died April 16, 2024, at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, NY. 

He was born in Riverdale, NJ, on May 3, 1946, the son of the late Harvey V. King, Sr., and Nellie McIlvain King.

Harvey graduated from Cherry Hill West High School in New Jersey.

Harvey worked at Matlock Trucking in many different positions, from mechanic to manager. He then went on to work at Carbon Express for over 35 years. 

In 1988, Harvey made a significant decision. He moved to Fort Plain, and the following year, he brought his family, who had previously resided in South Jersey, to live here. 

He enlisted in the US Army in 1965, serving until 1969, obtaining the rank of E-5.

In his spare time, he enjoyed playing horseshoes, helping animals, and watching birds. He was also an awesome mechanic, spending many weekends helping people fix their cars. 

On August 10, 1980, in New Jersey, Harvey married Elaine Soards; she passed away on March 8, 2020.

Survivors include his children, Harvey V. King, III, Danny King, and Annette King, all of Jacksonville, FL; son Kenneth King of Charleston, WV, and Tammy King of Fort Plain; sisters Shirly King and Sally Reed; and grandchildren Amber, Ashley, Cody, Crystal, Daniel, Danyel, Faith, Justin, and Katie; nieces Samantha and Christine.

As per his wishes, there will be no services. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Fort Plain Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339.
