Obituary of Patricia Anne Grainer

Patricia Grainer, 82, passed away on Saturday morning, February 24, 2024 after a life well-lived. 

Patricia was born on April 7, 1941 in Amsterdam, NY, the daughter of the late Angel and Florence (Tiberio) Collado of Canajoharie. On May 14, 1966, she was united in marriage to Thomas Grainer at Sts. Peter and Paul’s Catholic Church in Canajoharie. After their wedding, they traveled to Colorado where she worked for the federal government and supported them while Tom attended college.

After returning to Canajoharie, Patricia and Tom combined their talents of crafting and cabinetmaking to create a business called The Country Peddler. After many years of shows, they opened a storefront in downtown Canajoharie of the same name, this time incorporating Patricia’s love of home decorating and Tom’s ability to transform those ideas into reality. Later they took on a new venture, combining their interests once again to create the Window Box Bed and Breakfast which showcased her excellent skills in cooking, decorating and hospitality. Patricia and Tom enjoyed their B&B and loved getting to know each of their guests. They truly travelled the world through those who stayed with them. Patricia and Tom shared 46 years of a blessed marriage and partnership, before Tom’s passing in 2012. 

Patricia had a strong love and faith in God and practiced it throughout her life. She often shared fond memories of the church’s role in her upbringing. Throughout her life, Patricia was an excellent homemaker and was a very loving caregiver to her family.

Those who will cherish her memory include her daughter Jennifer Grainer and her husband Duke Bouchard; her son Mark Grainer and his wife Patricia, her sister Barbara Lesa and her husband Leon, her grandsons Wesley and Cameron, several nieces and nephews, and some dear cousins. She was predeceased by a grandson.

On Monday, March 4, 2024, the family will receive friends and relatives from 9:30–10:30 AM at Houghtaling & Hanley Funeral Home, 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317. A Christian Burial Mass will take place at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Hope, Reid Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339. Burial will be held in the Spring. Memorial contributions may be made in Patricia's memory to the Canajoharie Library & Art Gallery.
