Mr. David A. Putman,72, most recently of Rushmore Shores, Smithfield, Virginia, died following a short illness on December 31, 2023, in Williamsburg, VA.
David was born in Gloversville, NY, on September 12, 1951, the son of Burton H. Putman and Marie V. Kotrla Putman.
He graduated from Gloversville High School, Class of 1969, attending Wheelerville UF School for K-9.
He started working for Sears, Roebuck & Company in Ocala, Florida, in the late 1970s and into the early 1980s. He then went to work for the Goodyear Company in Ashville, NC, Roanoke, Virginia, and Williamsburg, Virginia, until his retirement in the mid-2000s.
For the past 30 years, he lived in Rushmere Shores; previously, he lived in North Bush (town of Caroga, NY), Ocala, Florida; Ashville, NC; Roanoke, VA; Rushmore Shores; and Smithfield, Virginia.
David was a past member of Fish House Masonic Lodge, #298 Free and Accepted Masons, Northville, NY, and a member of the Royal Mountain Moonlighters and Oppenheim Trail Blazers Snowmobile Clubs.
Dave enjoyed coming back home to NY for snowmobiling and deer hunting. He enjoyed riding the trails in Fulton and Hamilton Counties and trips to Tug Hill. He was an instructor in snowmobile safety, sponsored by the NYS Parks and Recreation Division of Marine and Recreational Vehicles in the 1970s. He also enjoyed amusement parks, which started at Sherman's in Caroga Lake. He spent many days at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, VA, and recently spent time at Disney World with his family in Florida.
Survivors include his daughter Amy (Patrick) Williams, granddaughter Chelsie Putman ( Kameron Cole), grandson Matthew Williams, great-grandson Mason Cole, all of Ocala Fl; brothers James (Barbara) of Madison, WI, Paul (Linda) of Johnstown, NY cousin Donna (Joe) Tessitore of Saratoga Springs, NY; nieces Becky (Jim) Smith of Madison WI; Melissa (Eric Jr.) Stumpf of Johnstown, NY; nephews Aaron Putman of Madison, WI, Michael (Eliza) Putman of Stone Arabia, NY.
Inurnment will take place at North Bush Cemetery in the spring.

Local arrangements are by Houghtaling and Hanley Funeral Home, 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.
