Mrs. Virginia C. Hoban, 99, of Punta Gorda, Florida died Friday, January 29, 2010 at the Young at Heart Living Center in Punta Gorda, Florida. Born on February 23, 1910 in St. Johnsville, NY, she was the daughter of Charles Cool and Virginie Layhe Cool. She was a graduate of St. Johnsville School, class of 1926. She then continued on to the Utica School of Commerce. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church of Canajoharie. Mrs. Hoban was an organist for the Catholic Churches for approximately 70 years in St. Johnsville and Canajoharie from the time she was 16 until she was 85. Mrs. Hoban was also active in the Altar Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters of Americas Court Catherine Esther #1264. On September 24, 1941 she married James Hoban. He preceded her in death on October 27, 1977. Mrs. Hoban was also predeceased by a daughter, Mary Sheila Hoban; brother, Roland Cool and her niece, Marion Cool. She had been a Florida resident since 2002 and had been a resident of New Jersey for a brief period of time around 1995; prior to that she lived in the Canajoharie area. Mrs. Hoban is survived by her daughters, Virginia Hoban-Pender (Ian) of Punta Gorda, FL, Keara Hoban-Weinstein (Tod) of Philadelphia, PA; sister, Marjorie Crangle of Delmar, NY; grandson, Jan Cort Hoban (Nina) of Hamburg, Germany; great-grandchildren, Nellie Marie Hoban and Levi Leo Hoban of Hamburg, Germany; as well as several nieces and nephews.
