Obituary of Edward Arnold Congdon, III

Please share a memory of Edward to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Mr. Edward Arnold Congdon, III, 94, died on January 6, 2024 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, NY.
He was born on May 1, 1929, in Little Falls, NY, the son of Edward N. Congdon and Martha M. Smith Congdon.
Ed attended Fort Plain area schools until he left to help support his mother and family.
He had worked as a crossing guard for the former Palatine School, the Montgomery Co. Sheriffs Department as a deputy Sheriff from 1954-1962, and as a field representative for the State Bank of Albany. He held many other jobs to fill his time until he fully retired in 1995.
One of his life's big accomplishments was his book, A Mormon Love Turns to Hate; its publication was not a small feat, with it being done later in life. He also found time to entertain the neighbors by playing his harmonica and using the karaoke machine.
He was predeceased in death by his son Brian Congdon, and sisters Violet Smith and Linda Mattice.
Survivors include his son Edward Congdon, Jr.; daughters Suzanne (Todd) Kayhart, Deanna, and Deb Venette; sisters Marvena Mereness and Bonnie Smith; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great children, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Graveside service will be held in the spring at Rural Park Cemetery, Ingham Mills, NY.
Please consider memorial donations to Ayers Animal Shelter, 133 Hilltop Road, Sprakers, NY 12166, or to the Montgomery Co. Sheriffs Dept., 200 Clark Dr, Fultonville, NY 12072.
