Mr. Carlton Leon (Cochi) Quackenbush, a resident of St. Johnsville Rehab and Nursing Center since March 29, 2006 and formerly residing at Highland Terrace, Fort Plain, NY died Saturday, February 6, 2010. He was born in Canajoharie, NY on January 5, 1924 to Leon and Clara (Sands) Quackenbush. He attended Canajoharie School. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 42nd Rainbow Division and 222nd Infantry Anti-Tank Division in the European and Alaska Theaters. He was stationed in Dachau, Germany, Austria, France, the Aleutians and on Kodiak, Alaska. At the time of his honorable discharge in December 1945 he was a Staff Sergeant. He was a Life Member of the National Association Rainbow Division 42nd Rainbow Division. He was also a Life Member of the VFW Earl Stock Memorial Post #3275, Fort Plain, NY. At one time Mr. Quackenbush had his own Taxi Service in Canajoharie, NY. For 35 years he worked in various production departments at Beech-Nut and he retired in March 1988. He also worked 25 years at Lee Publications, Pennysaver, Inc. He was an avid snowmobiler and handyman. On March 23, 1991, he married G. Carol (Close) Quackenbush, in the Chapel of the Canajoharie United Methodist Church. Mr. Quackenbush is survived by his wife, Carol; his daughter-in-law, Luevetta Quackenbush of Nacogdoches, TX; four brothers, Jesse of Fonda, NY, Lewis (Caroline) Quackenbush of Fort Plain, NY, Burdette (Elaine) Quackenbush of Fort Plain, NY, Gerry (LuEmma) Quackenbush of Randall, NY; granddaughter, Tracy (Frank) Colaroutolo of AZ. He is also survived by three step-daughters, Dawn (Morgan) Neddo of Waterford, NY, Faith Ann Wood of Loudonville, NY, Linda (Timothy) Conrad of Fort Plain, NY; four step-granddaughters; a step-grandson, and step-great-granddaughter, 5 step-great grandsons, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. He was predeceased by his son, Frank Quackenbush on April 23, 2006; his parents; and a sister, Evelyn Reno.
