Obituary of John LeRoy Benton

Mr. John LeRoy Benton, 76, of Rock Street, Canajoharie, New York died Monday, March 21, 2016 at Albany Medical Center, following a brief illness. LeRoy was born on August 10, 1939 and was a lifetime area resident. He worked in the Gum Department at Beech-Nut in Canajoharie for many years. Mr. Benton was a member of Community Bible Church in Canajoharie. He enjoyed tinkering with his many projects. Mr. Benton was predeceased by his sister, Barbara Benton. He is survived by his nephew, Jimmy Benton; niece, Sherry Benton; goddaughter, Stacey M. Hazzard and her son, Brendan; lifelong friend, Geraldine Davis. A special thanks to the Staff at Community Health Center, especially Kalley Lee and Jake Cotton. A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 28, 2016 at 11:00 AM at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Mr. John LeRoy Benton may be made to the Community Bible Church, Cliff Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.
