Obituary of George E. Williams

Mr. George E. Williams, 93, of Trailer Street, Palatine Bridge, NY, died at his home on September 22, 2023, with his daughter and favorite nurse Stacey by his side.

He was born in Palatine Bridge, on November 19, 1929, the son of Russell and Doris Moore Williams, they both predeceased him.

George graduated from Canajoharie High School, Class of 1947. Following graduation in 1951 he joined the US Army, serving as a corporal in the Korean War.

When he returned home, he began working at the cheese factory in Nelliston. When that closed, he went to Billington Hardware working as a repairman, and carpenter until his retirement. After retiring he decided he couldn’t be home so much. So, he started working at Don’s Electric one day a week to help him pass some time.

George was a communicant of Our Lady of Hope, Catholic Church, Fort Plain, as well as a member of the American Legion, Fort Plain Earl Stock Memorial Post #3275, VFW. He also enjoyed woodworking, making many picture frames for his wife’s paintings, a hobby of hers that he picked up and started painting himself.  He also was always available to give rides to anyone who needed one, a service that his grandkids especially enjoyed on many occasions.

On December 2, 1950, at St. John and St. Mark’s Lutheran Church he married Angeline T. Fiacchi predeceased him on April 14, 2014.

Besides his wife, all four of his sisters, Evelyn, Bev, Marion, and Eleanor also predeceased him.

He is survived by his daughter; Susan Null; son David Williams; 9 grandchildren Linda Mabie, Candi Cummings, Kayla Mykel, Steven Mykel, Brittany Failing, Derek Williams, Russel Williams, Kyle Williams, and Evan Williams; 13 great-grandchildren; Chelsea, Damian, Hayden, Beanne, Chris, Andrew, Shelby, Zachary, Steven, Roary, Colin Elijah, and Brooke;6 great great grandchildren; best buddy Peter Penny, and  good friend John McClarren,  as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A prayer service will be held on Thursday September 28, 2023, at 11:15am at the chapel of Houghtaling and Smith Funeral Home, Inc, 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:00 noon at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Reid Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339. The family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday September 27, 2023, from 4:00-7:00 PM at Houghtaling and Smith Funeral Home, 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.

Burial will take place at St. Peter and Paul’s Cemetery, Canajoharie, NY.
