Obituary of Ada M. Palmateer

Mrs. Ada M. Palmateer, 87, most recently of Gloversville, formerly of Fort Plain, New York died peacefully, Saturday, April 2, 2016 at Nathan Littauer Nursing Home in Gloversville. Born on June 3, 1928 in the Town of Palatine, NY, she was the daughter of Victor Voght and Jessie Clark Voght. She was educated at the former Stone Arabia School House and was a lifetime area resident. Mrs. Palmateer was a mother and homemaker. She also worked with her husband, Gilbert, at the Tri-Town Dairy, running the Dairy Bar in Canajoharie. She sold Stanley Home Products, Electrolux, and worked for the St. Johnsville Shoe Factory. Mrs. Palmateer was a past member of the Salem United Methodist Church for many years and was a current member of the Canajoharie United Methodist Church. She was a Lay Minister at Salem United Methodist Church and Ephratah Methodist Church, which she took great pride in. She loved music and sang at many different places, entertaining Seniors with the Kazoo Band, and brought joy and laughter with her yodeling; other favorite past times included working in the family garden and canning with her husband. She enjoyed playing cards and spending quality time in the kitchen baking goodies with her grandchildren. On January 5, 1947, Ada was married to Gilbert Palmateer. He preceded her in death on January 24, 1986. She was also predeceased by sons, Robert Palmateer in 2004, Allan Palmateer in 2008; brother, Herbert Voght in the 1970's and an infant brother. Mrs. Palmateer is survived by her daughters, Victoria L. Matteson of Canajoharie, NY, Jeanette A. Byroad of Athen, TN, Linda K. Garretson of Palatine Bridge, NY, Patricia E. Palmateer of Cleveland, TN, Laura L. Famiglietti of Gloversville, NY; son, Mark I. Palmateer and Kelly of Jordanville, NY; brother, Clifford R. Voght of Dolgeville, NY; sister, Clara E. Fredericks of Ilion, NY; sister-in-law, Alberta A. Voght of Fonda, NY; 24 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 6th, 2016 at 10:00am at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317 with Rev. Dr. Camillus Mourice officiating. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 from 5:00-8:00pm at the funeral home.
