Mr. Herbert L. Allen, 88, of West Ames Road, Canajoharie, New York, died Monday, January 10, 2011 at Palatine Nursing Home. Born on October 12, 1922 in Palatine Bridge, NY, he was the son of DeMyron Allen and Lucy LaGrange Allen. Mr. Allen resided in Palatine Bridge most of his life, moving in with his son and daughter-in-law in Ames about 8 years ago. He was of Protestant faith. On December 31, 1943 in Gloversville, NY, he was married to Virginia Claburn. She preceded him in death on September 7, 2002. Mr. Allen was also predeceased by a brother, George Allen; sisters, Marion Christman, Peggy Sawchuk and Geraldine Skandera. Mr. Allen is survived by his son, Herbert T. and Peggy Allen of Ames, NY; 5 sisters, Elizabeth Wall of Palatine Bridge, NY, Edith Brown of St. Johnsville, NY, Shirley Estenich of Palatine Bridge, NY, June Dunckle of Canajoharie, NY, Irene Wiers of Herkimer, NY; brother, Anderson Allen of St. Johnsville, NY; grandchildren, Wendy and Ted Shaver of Ames, NY, Eric P. Allen of Fort Johnson, NY; great-grandchildren, Amanda Williams of Flushing, NY, Matthew Williams of Ames, NY; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
