Mrs. Virginia "Jinny" A. Luscombe, 91,formerly of Lafayette Street, Palatine Bridge, NY died March 23, 2011 at Livingston Hills Nursing Home in Hudson, NY . She had lived for several years at Arkell Hall in Canajoharie, NY. Born on August 2, 1919 in Lynn, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of the late Frederick S. and Cora (Parker) Allen. Virginia grew up in Lynn, Massachusetts and Thorndike, Maine and graduated from Lynn English High School in 1936. She continued her education at Framingham State Teacher's College and graduated with a BS in Education in 1941. She completed graduate study in Theoretical and Practical Dietetics at the University of Michigan in 1942 and began working for New York City in NYC in 1942 as a dietician. On April 16, 1942, Virginia married David S. Luscombe. The couple moved to Palatine Bridge, NY in 1947. Virginia was a member of the Canajoharie United Methodist Church and along with serving on various committees; she was also a beloved Sunday school teacher for the kindergarten and pre-K children for many years. Virginia worked for the Montgomery County (NY) Schools from 1966 through 1969, teaching health in the Fort Plain and St. Johnsville schools. She began working at the former Canajoharie Public Library & Art Gallery in 1969 (now known as the Canajoharie Library & Art Museum) and remained for many years. Young children were always a big part of Virginia's life. Her love of children showed in the years she spent as a Sunday school teacher for four and five-year-olds, as the teacher of Story Hour at the Canajoharie Public Library. Many of the children in the Canajoharie area heard stories read by and did art projects with "Mrs. Luscombe". In more recent years, young children still brought Virginia much joy when they visited. Virginia was also a member of the Canajoharie United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She was a member of the Canajoharie Colonial Club since 1949 and honorary member of GFWC Mohawk Valley Women's Club. Virginia's husband, David, preceded her in death on April 16, 2003. She was, also, predeceased by her brother: Fredrick G. Allen in 2005. She leaves behind, four children: Sandra L. Artus, Poughkeepsie, NY; Scott Luscombe of Truxton, NY; Keith Luscombe of Jaffrey, NH and Pam McCarter of Memphis, TN; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, five nieces and nephews.
