Mr. Stephen C. Haig, 57 years old, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2011 at his home on State Highway 10 in Canajoharie, New York. Mr. Haig was born in Fort Benning, Georgia on October 16, 1953, the son of Merton C. and Catherine C. Conlin Haig. He was a life-long area resident. Stephen graduated from Canajoharie Central High School in 1971. He began his career in automotive repair at Hertz-Penske and was the owner and operator of the former Marshville General Repair. Most recently, he was employed by Liberty Enterprises in the up-county maintenance department. Stephen was the current President of the Sprout Brook Rod and Gun Club, a member and Past Vice-President of the Ames Volunteer Fire Department, and former Fire Police Chief for Ames Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, tinkering and building things. Stephen was pre-deceased by two brothers, Michael Haig and Matthew P. Haig. He is survived by his parents, Merton and Catherine "Kitty" Haig of Canajoharie, New York; his sons, Nathan and his wife, Amanda Haig, of Canajoharie, New York and Aaron and his wife, Regina Haig of Central Bridge, New York; his sister Karla and her husband, Richard Belcher of Florence, New Jersey; his brother Patrick Haig of Canajoharie, New York; and his grandchildren, Meriah, Aubreian, Collin, Kaylee, Cody and Chloe Haig.
