Mrs. Janet A. Harbster, 81, of Lydius Street, Fort Plain, New York, died Monday, July 18, 2011 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam following a brief illness. Born on May 7, 1930 in Amsterdam, NY, she was the daughter of George Groffman and Leora Mather Groffman. She was a graduate of Fort Plain High School and a lifetime area resident. Most recently, Mrs. Harbster worked as a cashier at Grand Union in Fort Plain. She also worked for the Ben Franklin Store in Fort Plain. Mrs. Harbster was a member of the Fort Plain Reformed Church. On September 9, 1950 in Fort Plain Janet was married to Kenneth H. Harbster. He preceded her in death on October 22, 1997. Mrs. Harbster is survived by 2 daughters, Pamela R. Schuyler of Fort Plain, NY, Sheryl A. McLaughlin of Utica, NY; 4 grandchildren, Jason Schuyler, Jennifer Boyer, Jeeana Schaffer, Jane McLaughlin; 5 great-grandchildren, Jack Boyer, Abby Boyer, Sadie Baldwin, Jacob Schuyler and Allie Schuyler. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 22, 2011 at 1:00pm at the Chapel of Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339 with Rev. R.W. Williams officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, July 22 from 12:00-1:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery.
