Obituary of Edith Irene Adelman

Mrs. Edith Irene Lindholm Adelman passed away Sunday, August 21, 2011 with her family at her side. Edith celebrated her 101st birthday on January 11th. She was born in South Hampton, Long Island in 1910 to Polish and Finnish immigrants. She was raised with her four brothers in South Hampton. Edith married John "Jack" F. Adelman in Pompton Lakes, NY and together they raised three children. Edith was a loving stepmother to Jack's three sons. After her children were grown, Edith worked as a Catalog Switchboard Operator and Sales Representative for the Sears and Roebuck Company in Middletown, NY. After her retirement Edith and Jack moved to the Mohawk Valley to be near their daughter, son and grandchildren. Edith loved to cook and bake for her family, and her great-grandchildren will fondly remember "Grammy's" sweet treats. Edith enjoyed reading, staying current on national and international news and politics, sewing, traveling, and spending time outdoors, especially in her garden by the water. She was also a proud member of the National Republican Party. Edith was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family includes her son and daughter-in-law, David F. and Karen Adelman of Hopkinton, MA; daughter and son-in-law, Edith and Richard L. Kennedy of Fort Plain, NY; granddaughter, Deborah Kennedy Decker (Pieter) of Virginia; grandsons, Richard F. Kennedy (Joanne) and John Scott Kennedy (Susan) of Fort Plain, David Michael Adelman of North Carolina; 8 great-grandchildren, Jessica, Kristina, Kayla Irene-Elizabeth, and Laura Kate Decker of Virginia; Jacob, Kendall and Olivia Kennedy of Fort Plain; and Benjamin Adelman of South Carolina. She was predeceased by her husband "Jack" in 1994 and a son, John Adelman in 1998. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, August 26, 2011 from 10-11:00am at the Salem United Methodist Church, Stone Arabia Road, Fort Plain. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11:00am with Pastor Nancy Pullen officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda, NY. Arrangements are entrusted to Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY.
