Mr. Hugh C. Pomella, 81, of River Street, Nelliston, New York died Saturday, May 7, 2016 at St. Mary's Healthcare in Amsterdam with his wife and family by his side. Born on November 10, 1934 in Nelliston, NY, he was the son of the late Lawrence Pomella and the late Beatrice Herb Pomella. He was a graduate of Fort Plain High School, Class of 1954 and was a lifetime area resident. Mr. Pomella worked for Beech-Nut in Canajoharie, as a Supervisor for 36 years, retiring in 1996. 3 years after his retirement he took a position with Richard Brands, working with them for 3 years. He was of Lutheran faith. Mr. Pomella enjoyed gardening and traveling. On September 7, 1957 in Fort Plain, NY, Hugh married Joan Bowman. Together they celebrated 58 years of marriage. Mr. Pomella is survived by his wife, Joan B. Pomella of Nelliston, NY; sister-in-law, Janet Amatangelo of TN; niece, Denise Amatangelo; nephew, Joseph Amatangelo; and several cousins. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at 1:00pm at Fort Plain Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339. Contributions in memory of Mr. Hugh C.
