Obituary of George Robert Vosburgh

Mr. George Robert Vosburgh, a local business man, of Mahr Road, died early Saturday morning, April 21, 2012 at his home. Born on August 14, 1925 in Amsterdam, NY, he was the son of George Vosburgh and Llora Dievendorf Vosburgh. He was a graduate of Canajoharie Central School, class of 1943. He was also a graduate of Colgate University, class of 1945 with a Business Degree. On September 16, 1950 in Johnstown, NY, George was married to Barbara Grant. Together they celebrated 61 years of marriage. Mr. Vosburgh was the owner and operator of Vosburgh Inc. as well as Valley Cable Company. He was a member of St. John's & St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Canajoharie. Mr. Vosburgh was the Director of the NYS TV Association. He was a volunteer Driver for Cancer and at the Herkimer Home. Mr. Vosburgh was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, Bud Lite Water Ski Association and the first member of the Pangaea Water Ski Team. Mr. Vosburgh served in the US Marine Corp., during the Korean War obtaining a rank of V12/Captain. He is predeceased by his brother, Dean Vosburgh. Mr. Vosburgh is survived by his wife, Barbara G. Vosburgh of Canajoharie, NY; 2 sons, George O. Vosburgh of Canajoharie, NY, Gerald Vosburgh of Bellingham, WA; brother, John Vosburgh of Olympia, WA; grandchildren, Austin, Chelsea, Sheldon, Zephran, Jeremy, Amanda; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. A private Memorial Service will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are entrusted to Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317. In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Mr. George Robert Vosburgh may be made to the Ayres Memorial Animal Shelter, Inc., 133 Hilltop Road, Sprakers, NY 12166 or to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Loudonville, NY 12211.
