Obituary of Shizue Hazzard

Mrs. Shizue "Candy" Hazzard, 86, of Wagners Hollow Road, Fort Plain, New York died, Friday, April 27, 2012 at Little Falls Hospital, following a long illness. Born on August 1, 1925 in Yokohama, Japan, she was the daughter of Den Saku Washizu and Ryu Washizu. On February 17, 1953 at the American Consulate's Office in Japan, she was married to Leslie Hazzard. Shortly after their marriage they came to the United States to start their life together and raise a family. Mrs. Hazzard was a mother and homemaker. She worked at several area businesses as a seamstress. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fort Plain. Candy enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting, cooking and going shopping. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Leslie Hazzard on March 16, 2001; daughter, Betty Jane Hazzard; and son, Leslie Michael Hazzard. Mrs. Hazzard is survived by her 3 sons, James O. and Carrie Hazzard of Delanson, NY, Walter L. and Sharon Hazzard of Fort Plain, NY, Steve K. and Tirzah Hazzard of Fort Plain, NY; daughter, Linda and Steve Hudyncia of Fort Plain, NY; 13 grandchildren, Melissa, Cory, Justin, Chantel, Jeffrey, Megan, Lesly, Gregory, Matthew, Soren, Hans, Dustin, Travis; 6 great-grandchildren, Hunter, Brendan, Sydney, Kali, Olivia, Aysah; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 from 12:00-2:00pm at Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317 followed by a funeral service at 2:00pm with Rev. Kenneth Dingman officiating. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Mrs. Shizue "Candy" Hazzard may be made to the Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service, PO Box 453, Palatine Bridge, NY 13428.
