Obituary of Ruth W. Weaver

Mrs. Ruth W. Weaver, 84, of Sprakers, New York died Sunday, October 14, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam. Born on July 10, 1928 in East Aurora, NY, she was the daughter of Frederick Wickert and Helen May Gould Wickert. She was a graduate of Nottingham High School in Syracuse, NY and a graduate of St. Mary's Institute of Nursing, class of 1963. Mrs. Weaver had been a resident of the Town of Root since 1952, previously residing in the Town of Carlisle. Mrs. Weaver started her career in 1964 working in St. Mary's Hospital as a nurse. In 1972 she became the Director of Nurses for Palatine Nursing Home. She then went to work as the Director of Nursing for Arkell Hall in 1974. Mrs. Weaver had been a familiar face at Arkell Hall Adult Home for over 20 years. She was the Director of Arkell Hall starting in 1978, a position she held until 1994. She was of Methodist faith. Mrs. Weaver was a former member of Little Falls Hospital and was a member of the Red Cross. On January 8, 1949 at the Gilboa Methodist Church in Gilboa, NY, Ruth married Walter James Weaver. Together they celebrated over 63 years of marriage. Mrs. Weaver was predeceased by a son, Thomas Walter Weaver on June 26, 1990. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Priscilla Guyette and Helen Hamilton. She is survived by her husband, Walter James Weaver of Sprakers, NY; daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Robert Anderson of Ballston Spa, NY; brother, Fred Wickert Jr. of Gilboa, NY; grandchildren, Thomas W. and Kristinia Weaver, Jr. of the Town of Root, NY, Adam C. and Theresa Weaver of the Town of Root, NY, Heather M. and Robert Ketzer of Canajoharie, NY, Kristin and Todd Scott of Saratoga, NY, Britta Anderson of Ballston Spa, NY; great-grandchildren, Ryan Weaver, Alex Weaver, Adam Weaver, Jr., Thomas Weaver, III, Melena Scott, Hailey Weaver, Jacoba Ketzer, Hanna Ketzer; daughter-in-law, June Dolly; foster daughter, Mary Hicks of Albany, NY; nephews, Charles, Eugene, Martin and Christopher Guyette; as well as several cousins. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 19, 2012 at 10:00am at the Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317 with Rev. Brett Popp officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, October 18, 2012 from 3:00-6:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Canajoharie Falls Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Ruth W. Weaver may be made to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Loudonville, NY 12211 or to the Christian Church of Charleston, 1380 E. Lykers Road, Sprakers, NY 12166.
