Obituary of Robert W. Van Valkenburg

Mr. Robert W. Van Valkenburg, 86, of Carlisle Road, Canajoharie, New York went to be with the LORD on January 15, 2013 with his loving family at his side. He was born in Canajoharie on October 1, 1926 the son of Robert G. and Mabel D. Van Valkenburg. Robert was a lifetime resident of Canajoharie and graduated from Canajoharie High School in 1944. He then enlisted in the US Army and served honorably being discharged in 1946 with the rank of Master Sergeant. In 1947 he attended the American Surety Insurance School in New York City. He was a licensed insurance agent in this area for many years. Bob was a lifetime member of the Canajoharie Reformed Church, serving as deacon. He was also a member of the Amvets and Lions Club. In 1950 he married Betty I. Leneker, daughter of Raymond and Irene Leneker of Cherry Valley. They were married for 61 years. Bob is predeceased by his wife, Betty and his son, Paul. He is survived by his daughter, Judith I. Burgess and her husband, Charles Burgess of Canajoharie; 2 grandchildren, Joshua C. Burgess and Jenna L. Burgess Connor. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 21, 2013 at 10:00am at the Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317 with Rev. Miriam Barnes officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, January 20, 2013 from 4-7pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery in the spring.
