Obituary of Debra A. McGovern

Mrs. Debra A. McGovern, 62, of Starkville Road, Fort Plain, New York died unexpectedly Wednesday evening, September 25, 2013 at Bassett Healthcare of Cooperstown. Born on June 18, 1951 in Little Falls, NY, she was the daughter of Gerard W. Frank and Norma Chiuminato Frank. She was a graduate of Canajoharie High School, class of 1969 and was a lifelong area resident. Mrs. McGovern was a loving mother and homemaker. She was of Catholic faith. Mrs. McGovern enjoyed crafts and sewing, often doing alterations for people. Her family was a very important part of her life. On September 25, 1971 in Canajoharie, at her parent's house, Debra was married to John "Jack" McGovern. Together they celebrated 42 years of marriage. She was predeceased by her sister, Susan Frank in 2011. Mrs. McGovern is survived by her husband, John "Jack" McGovern of Fort Plain, NY; son, Mike McGovern of Fort Plain, NY; daughter, Jeanne McGovern and her husband, Jason Osness of Yelm, WA; sister, Sandra Blackman of Queensbury, NY; grandson, Marshal Osness; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 30, 2013 at 10:00am at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY with Father Dennis Murphy officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, September 29 from 4:00-7:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in St. Peter's & Paul's Cemetery in Canajoharie. In lieu of flowers contributions in memory of Mrs. Debra A. McGovern may be made to the South Minden Volunteer Fire Department, 1029 St. Hwy. 163, Fort Plain, NY 13339.
