Obituary of Harriet W. Thackrah

Mrs. Harriet W. Thackrah, 88, formerly of Sprakers, New York died, Thursday, October 24, 2013 at St. Mary's Healthcare of Amsterdam. Born on May 31, 1925 in Amsterdam, NY, she was the daughter of William and Edna Godden. She was a graduate of Wilbur-Lynch High School and was a lifetime area resident. Mrs. Thackrah was a clerk for the US Postal Service in Sprakers, NY for over 20 years, retiring in 1989. She had been a very active member of the Sprakers Reformed Church since 1957. She also taught Sunday School for the church. Mrs. Thackrah was a member of the Valley Choralaires, the Canajoharie Senior Citizens, the Reformed Church Choir, Sprakers Ladies Aid and the Sprakers Home Bureau. On February 16, 1947 in Amsterdam, NY, Harriet was married to Herbert B. Thackrah. He preceded her in death on April 16, 1994. Mrs. Thackrah is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Gautie of Ballston Spa, NY, Amy Soodsma of Sprakers, NY; sons, Timothy Thackrah of Canajoharie, NY, Chief Thomas Thackrah of Clovis, NM; sister, Barbara Hayes of Oneonta, NY; grandchildren, Jamie Thackrah, Shelby Thackrah, Erik Thackrah, Ashley Thackrah-Young, Joshua Thackrah, Cora Lynn Soodsma, Jared Soodsma; and several great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Noon at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317 with Rev. Miriam Barnes officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 10:00-12:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Canajoharie Falls Cemetery.
