Obituary of Florence M. Becker

Mrs. Florence M. Becker, 99, most recently of Arkell Hall, Montgomery Street, Canajoharie, New York died Monday, March 24, 2014 at the Wilkinson Residential Healthcare Facility in Amsterdam with her family by her side, following a brief illness. Born on November 10, 1914 in Ilion, NY, she was the daughter of Herbert Joseph Moore and Hanna Elizabeth Wall Moore. She was a graduate of Ilion High School and was a local area resident for most of her life. For many years, Florence worked for Arkell & Smith Bag Factory in Canajoharie. She later retired from Beech-Nut in Canajoharie as an inspector after working in various departments. She was a member of St. John's & St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Canajoharie. Mrs. Becker was the past president of LCW, now known as WELCA. She enjoyed crocheting. She was the first president of the Orchid Society at Arkell Hall and for many years was secretary for the Resident's Council. On June 12, 1937 in Ilion, NY, Florence was married to Lorenzo "Larry" Becker. He preceded her in death on April 10, 1981. She was also predeceased by her son, David C. Becker; 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Mrs. Becker is survived by her sons, Donald G. Becker of Amsterdam, NY, Charles L. Becker of PA; 3 grandchildren, Connie Farnham, Cory Becker, Stephen Becker; 5 great-grandchildren, Ryan, Kaitlyn, Sam, Courtney, Hunter; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda, NY.
