Obituary of Lucia D. Gudlewski

Lucia Gudlewski Lucia (Lucy) Gudlewski, 96, passed away on April 11, 2014 at the Wells House Nursing Home in Johnstown, New York. She was born to Timothy and Anna Evangelista D'Arcangelis in Fort Plain, New York on January 27, 1918. Lucy was one of eight children. She grew up in Fort Plain and graduated from Fort Plain High School. Before getting married, she worked at her family's businesses - the D'Arcangelis Grill on West State Street and the Colonial Eating House on Main Street in Fort Plain. She married Joseph Gudlewski on May 8, 1943 and they raised their family in Fort Plain - daughters Gloria and Helen, sons Anthony and Joseph, and niece Shelley. They also spent many enjoyable summers at their camp on the Sacandaga Reservoir. Lucy was a dedicated homemaker. Joe and Lucy were married for thirty years until Joe died in1973. After Joe died, Lucy joined the Fort Plain Senior Citizens and the St. Johnsville Senior Citizens. She also worked for a time at the Hotel Fort Plain. She enjoyed many trips, meetings and lunches with the Seniors and, for a time, she was treasurer and president of the Fort Plain Seniors. She also continued to enjoy summers at camp on the Sacandaga. Lucy was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Fort Plain. Lucy was predeceased by her brothers Armeno, Lewis, Pacifico, Peter and Frank and sisters Connie and Pacifica. She is survived by her sister-in-law Sally D'Arcangelis; children Gloria (and Jim) Brand, Helen Lee, Anthony (and Monica) Gudlewski, Joseph Gudlewski, and niece Shelley (and Dave) LeVine; grandchildren Julie (and Lars) Asbornsen, David (and Amy) Bernard, Heather (and Ryan) Haskell, Timothy Gudlewski, Noreena Presutto, Giuseppe Presutto and Joely Gudlewski and grandniece Corinne LeVine; great-grandchildren Lilah, Chance, Joshua, Abbie, Charlie, and Sarah; and many other nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at the Wells House and Father Murphy of Our Lady of Hope Parish in Fort Plain for their love and care. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Hope Parish or the Fort Plain Scholarship Association.
