Obituary of Noel A. Miller

Mr. Noel A. Miller, 88, of West Grand Street, Palatine Bridge, New York died Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Palatine Nursing Home following a long illness. Born on February 16, 1926 in Little Falls, NY, he was the son of Everett Miller, Sr. and Mildred Wafer Miller. Noel was a graduate of Canajoharie High School and was a lifetime area resident. Mr. Miller was the assistant manager for Victory Market/Great American spending most of his career in Canajoharie, also working at the Fonda and Cooperstown stores, retiring in 1988. Mr. Miller was a veteran of the US Navy, serving in the Pacific Theater from 1944-1946, obtaining a rank of Seaman 1st Class. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fort Plain and was a past Church council member. Mr. Miller was a member of the Otsquago Coin Association, Empire State Numismatic Association, Canajoharie Senior Citizens and Ayres Memorial Animal Shelter. He was a NASCAR fan and a fan of the NY Mets. He enjoyed fishing, reading, traveling and watching R.C. planes at air shows. Noel and his wife, Marge assisted the 4th grade social studies curriculum by taking photos of the local historical places. Together they provided aerial shots as well as photos taken at ground level. On June 23, 1957 at the Salem Evangelical Church in East Stone Arabia, Noel was married to Margaret Groff. Together they celebrated over 56 years of marriage. Noel was predeceased by 2 brothers, Everett Miller, Jr. and Walter Miller. Mr. Miller is survived by his wife, Margaret E. Miller of Palatine Bridge, NY; sisters-in-law, Fran Dybas of Johnstown, NY, Lorraine and Bob Fredericks of Fort Plain, NY; brother-in-law, Duane Groff of Stone Arabia, NY; an aunt; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 25, 2014 at 1:00pm at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317 with Rev. Kenneth Dingman officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from Noon-1:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery with full Military Honors provided by the US Navy. Contributions in memory of Mr. Noel A. Miller may be made to Ayres Memorial Animal Shelter, Inc., 133 Hilltop Road, Sprakers, NY 12166 or to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 36 Lydius Street, Fort Plain, NY 13339.
