Obituary of Thelma Mae Swartz

Mrs. Thelma Mae Swartz, 88, of Dygert Street, Palatine Bridge, New York passed away Friday, July 13, 2018 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on August 22, 1929 in Amsterdam, NY, she was the daughter of Paul Morton and Minnie Avery Morton.  She was a graduate of Fort Plain High School and was a lifetime area resident.

Mrs. Swartz worked as the Office Manager for Harry Hoag Elementary School for over 20 years.  She had also worked from home babysitting, was secretary for Beech-Nut’s Manager in Canajoharie, secretary for Clyde Bank, and worked for the Knitting Mill.

She was a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church.

Mrs. Swartz went from being Dispatcher to Chief Dispatcher for the former Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance service, a position she held for over 20 years.  She was an avid reader, enjoyed going for rides, camping, fishing, sewing, knitting, and flower gardening.

Thelma was married to Ralph “Boby” Swartz at the Fort Plain Catholic Church.  They had been married for over 68 years.

Her sister, Mary Barr; and son, Brian Paul Swartz predeceased her.

Mrs. Swartz is survived by her husband, Ralph Swartz of Palatine Bridge, NY; 6 children, Karen Bennett and Donald of Mayfield, NY, Robert Swartz and Christiane of Nelliston, NY, Timothy Swartz of Fort Hunter, NY, Ralph Swartz of Fort Hunter, NY, Willard Swartz and Darlene of Amsterdam, NY, Cheryl Swartz of Mayfield, NY; sister, Nancy Morton of Hilton Head, SC; 10 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

A ffuneral service will be held on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at 10:00AM at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Reid Street, Fort Plain, NY.  The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 from 4:00-7:00PM at The Chapel of Gray-Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, 34 Center Street, Fort Plain, NY.  Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery.
