Obituary of Norma Jean Borst

Mrs. Norma Jean Borst,78, of Kahn Road, Fort Plain, New York died Thursday, September 4, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica. Born on January 31, 1936 in Fort Plain, NY, she was the daughter of LaVerne Rice and Noreena Westpy Rice. She was a lifetime area resident. Mrs. Borst was a mother and homemaker. She also worked outside the home from time to time. She was a member of the Freysbush United Methodist Church. Mrs. Borst enjoyed reading and camping with her family. On February 6, 1954 in Sprakers, NY, Norma was married to Gordon H. Borst. Together they celebrated 60 years of marriage. Mrs. Borst was predeceased by her brother, Richard Rice and sister, Marion Wells. She is survived by her husband, Gordon H. Borst of Fort Plain, NY; 7 children, Dawn Hisert, Barb Failing, Gordon "Bucky" Borst, Candy Borst, LaVerne Borst, Paul Borst, Faith Ann Borst; half-sister, Linda Hoffman; Half Sister Linda Hoffman; 18 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services are private and will be held at the convenience of the family. A public graveside service will be held on Tues September 9th at 12:30 at Fort Plain Cemetery, and all are welcome to attend that service. Arrangements are under the direction of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Norma Jean Borst may be made to the Central New York's Lion's Club, PO Box 192, Troy, NY 12181-0192.
