Mrs. Rose Marie Smith, 85, of Northern Terrace, Fort Plain, New York died, December 12, 2014 at St. Mary's Healthcare in Amsterdam. Born on July 9, 1929 in Fort Plain, NY, she was the daughter of Joseph Bentz and Florence Eutermarks Bentz. She had attended Fort Plain High School and was a lifetime area resident. Mrs. Smith worked for many years as a Bagger at LifeSavers in Canajoharie, NY until her retirement. She had also worked at a Cosmetic Factory in Canajoharie, NY, as an assembly line manager. Rose enjoyed Bingo, horse racing and all kinds of animals and wildlife. She was a huge supporter of the SPCA. In 1948 Rose was married to Richard K. Smith. Together they celebrated 58 years of marriage. Richard preceded her in death on August 22, 2006. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Rufus, Donald, and Richard Bentz. Mrs. Smith is survived by her son, Larry R. Smith of Amsterdam, NY; 2 granddaughters, Tracy A. Smith of Little River, SC, Vanessa Smith of Buffalo, NY; brother, Bobby Bentz of St. Johnsville, NY. A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Fort Plain Cemetery with Pastor Donnie Semple of Victorious Life Church in Fort Plain officiating. The time and date for the service will be announced in the spring. In lieu of flowers please make contributions in memory of Mrs. Rose Marie Smith to the Ayres Memorial Animal Shelter, Inc., 133 Hilltop Road, Sprakers, NY 12166.
