Obituary of Grace M. Kretser

Mrs. Grace M. Kretser, 87, of Jump Road, Sprakers, New York died Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at Palatine Nursing Home, surrounded by her family. Born on November 29, 1927 in the Town of Minden, NY, she was the daughter of Sanford Walts and Jennie Scism Walts. She attended school at West Canada Valley in Newport, NY and was a lifetime area resident. Mrs. Kretser was a mother and homemaker. She was a member of the Sprakers Reformed Church and was a Deacon of the Church and past Consistory member. She was a member of the ladies' aide society at the Church, a Sunday School Teacher for many years, and a member of the Church Choir. Mrs. Kretser participated in Breast Cancer Service Walks. She was an avid flower gardener and was known for her chocolate jumbos. On August 18, 1945 at the Sprakers Reformed Church, Grace was married to David C. Kretser. He preceded her in death on October 10, 1981. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Rhea Raasch and Beatrice Stalteri. Mrs. Kretser is survived by her 3 daughters, Barbara (Charles) Peet of Sprakers, NY, Joan Kretser of Sprakers, NY, Carol (Lennart) Johnson of Burlington Flats, NY; 2 sons, David (Alison) Kretser, Jr. of Owings, MD, James (Joanne) Kretser of Perth, NY; 2 sisters, Laura Marjorie Kissiar of Valparaiso, FL, Roba Johnson of Little Falls, NY; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 10:00am at Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY with Rev. RW Williams officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, February 27, 2015 from 4:00-7:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in the spring at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Canajoharie.
