Mrs. Catherine Marie Oliverio, 94, of West Grand Street, Palatine Bridge, New York died Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at River Ridge Living Center in Amsterdam. Born on April 6, 1921 in Harrison, NY, she was the daughter of Dominick and Theresa DeSimone. She was a graduate of Harrison High School. Mrs. Oliverio moved to the Palatine Bridge area in 1969 from Smithtown Long Island. Mrs. Oliverio served on the Board of Elections for many years. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Fort Plain. Mrs. Oliverio was a former member of the Catholic Daughters of Americas Court Catherine Esther #1264. She enjoyed being part of a Bowling League at Iroquois' Lanes for many years and loved going to the Casino. On July 2, 1944 in Harrison, NY, Catherine was married to Anthony Peter Oliverio. He preceded her in death on October 8, 1989. Her son, Anthony Peter Oliverio, Jr.; grandson, David Serricchio; sisters, Lucy Cushmar, Louise Rizzie; brother, Dominick DeSimone also predeceased her. She is survived by her 3 daughters, Louise Ann and Joseph DeGennaro of Florida, Ellen and Dante Serricchio of Red Bank, NJ, Toni Kay Oliverio and Marge Moschetti of Florida; son, George A. Olivero of Palatine Bridge, NY; sister, Mary Ann Davicka of Nyack, NY; 6 grandchildren, Joseph DeGennaro, Nicholas DeGennaro, Nina DaRante, Jeffery Serricchio, Sarah Oliverio; 4 great-grandsons, Anthony, Michael, Austin, Tyler; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 24, 2015 at 10:00am at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, Reid Street, Fort Plain, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, April 23, 2015 from 4:000-7:00pm at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY. Burial will take place in Fort Plain Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Catherine M. Oliverio may be made to the Canajoharie Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 28, Canajoharie, NY 13317.
