Obituary of William A. Murphy

Mr. William A. Murphy, Sr., 76, of Murphy Road, Fort Plain, NY died on November 12, 2023, at the Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, NY, following a brief illness, while he was surrounded by his loving family.

William was born on July 15, 1947, in Little Falls, NY, the son of William P. Murphy and June Anderson Murphy.

He attended Fort Plain High School and lived locally most of his life.  For over 35 years he was employed at Beech-Nut in Canajoharie, NY.

Bill enjoyed volunteering at Fort Klock, helping maintain the grounds and the fort, hunting, fishing, camping, and being outdoors. When he couldn’t be outside, he liked watching NASCAR.

On May 20, 1967, in Fort Plain, Ny he married Emma Groshans, who survives.

He was pre-deceased in death by his parents, his brother John Murphy, and granddaughter Jennifer Gushue, and grandson Robert VanArsdal.

Survivors include his wife, Emma Murphy; daughter Nancy (Eddie) James; son William (Elizabeth) Murphy, Jr.; sister Shirley (Frank) Palmer, Susan Boyer; grandsons Loran VanArsdal, Jr. and his wife Casey; and a great grandson Jonathan Gushue, Jr. ; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday December 16th, 2023, at the Canajoharie Vol. Fire Dept., starting with a service of remembrance starting at 1:00, with a gathering following.
