Obituary of Lionel A. Pitt

Mr. Lionel A. Pitt, 80, of West Ames Road, Ames, NY died early in the morning on September 27, 2023, at his home surrounded by his  family. He was born in Cobleskill, NY on July 21, 1943, the son of the late Emory Pitt and Minnie Ahl Pitt.

Lionel attended Schoharie Schools, living in the local area most of his  life, with a time spent living in Houston, TX,  and was a self employed contractor.

He had attended the former Valley Bible Baptist Church.

On June 15, 1968 at the Lutheran Church, Central Bridge, NY he married Catherine M. Cathey Mackey. She predeceased him in death on June 27, 2019.

He was also predeceased by his two sisters; Michele and Pat; and twin brother Leland.

Survivors include children, Rebecca and Gary Bevins, Matthew and Tammy Pitt, Corena and Jimmy New, Darryl Pitt; two sisters Nancy and Cheryl;  a brother Daniel; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins; and his three beloved cats.

The family will receive friends and relatives on Sunday October 1, 2023 from 2:00-4:00 PM at Houghtaling and Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317; with a funeral following at 4:00PM at the funeral home.

Burial will take place at Ames Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family asks memorial contributions be made to a charity of one's choice.
