Ronald E. Hillabrandt, 91, formerly of Goodrich Avenue in Fort Plain, died Friday, February 29, 2008 at Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility where he had resided for the past year and a half. Mr. Hillabrandt was born in Stone Arabia, New York on October 19, 1916, the son of Earl and Eva Kiltz Hillabrandt. Mr. Hillabrandt was a graduate of Canajoharie School and a lifelong area resident. He had been the owner and operator of the family dairy farm for almost fifty years. He retired from the New York State Department of Transportation Canal System in the early 1980s. Mr. Hillabrandt and his wife, Marion, enjoyed helping others in their time of need. He had been a very active member of the Salem United Methodist Church in East Stone Arabia. He served as Sunday School Superintendent and leader and was involved in rebuilding the church after the fire. He was active and involved in all phases of church work and loved singing. Additionally, he was a member of the Canajoharie-Fort Plain Elks Lodge #2621 B.P.O.E. where he was actively involved in many activities and received the Veteran's Service Award in 1992. He was married June 25, 1935 in East Stone Arabia to Marion Smith. He was predeceased by his wife who died in November 1994 and by his sister, Beryl Shull, who died in 1989. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Beverly Hillabrandt of Honeoye Falls, New York, his grandson, Larry H. Hillabrandt, Jr. and his wife Yan of Carmel, Indiana, his niece Judy Winn of Florida, and many close and dear friends.
