Mr. Valentine "Val" C. Waner, III, 91, of Seebers Lane, Canajoharie, New York, died Tuesday morning, April 8, 2008 at Palatine Nursing Home following a brief illness. Born on May 8, 1916 in Canajoharie, he is the son of Valentine C. Waner, II and Emma Shineman. Mr. Waner graduated from Canajoharie High School, Class of 1934. Mr. Waner ran the family dairy farm until starting his career with GLF (Agway) from 1948 until his retirement in 1978. He was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Waner was active in County politics serving as Assessor for the Town of Canajoharie from 1976-1979, Town Councilman from 1980-1982 and Town of Canajoharie Supervisor from 1982-1985. He was a communicant of St. John's and St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Canajoharie. Val loved nature. He enjoyed watching and feeding birds, driving in the Adirondacks and spending summers with his wife and family at the family camp on Caroga Lake. A lifelong learner, he enjoyed reading about New York State History and local folklore. Val was married on September 25, 1946 to Wanda G. Patulski. In addition to being survived by his beloved wife, Wanda P. Waner he is also survived by his children Kathi and her husband Richard Allen of Fonda, NY, Valentine "Bud" and his wife JoAnn Waner, IV of Fort Plain, NY, Amy and her husband John Birchler of Glenville, NY, Andrea and her husband Doug Hoyt of Wheatridge, CO. He is also survived by a grandson, Douglass Gallup of Albany, NY.
