Mr. Russell H. Moyer, 90, of Dygert Road, Canajoharie, New York, died Saturday, May 17, 2008 at Palatine Nursing Home. Born on October 13, 1917 in the Town of Minden, NY, he was the son of Harvey C. Moyer and Doris Winnie. Mr. Moyer attended various County Schools. Most recently Mr. Moyer was employed at Shults' Motor Sales as an auto mechanic until his retirement in 1980. He had also spent some time as a self-employed carpenter and as the owner and operator of a repair shop. Mr. Moyer was a lifetime area resident. He was an active lifetime member of the Marshville Evangelical Church. Mr. Moyer enjoyed working in his shop. He was very clever with wood and metal. He also loved to build tractors and various unique machinery. Russell married Elizabeth "Betty" McEwan on November 10, 1938 at the Lutheran Parsonage in Canajoharie, NY. They have enjoyed 69 years of marriage. In addition to his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Moyer of Canajoharie, NY he is also survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Rosada M. and Derwin Utter of Cherry Valley, NY; and a son and daughter-in-law, Robert H. and Alyce Moyer of Canajoharie, NY. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Barry Haig, Brian Haig, Holly Thomas, James Moyer, Kenneth Moyer, Tracy Moyer and Shannon Wilder; fourteen great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
