Merritt Prime, 86, of Latimer Hill Road, Canajoharie, New York, died May 29, 2008 at home. He was born October 4, 1921 in Salt Springville, New York, the son of William Prime, Sr. and Edna Nestle. He attended local area schools. For many years Mr. Prime was employed at Beech Nut Corp., in Canajoharie in the maintenance department, until his retirement in 1984. Mr. Prime was a lifetime area resident. He served in the U.S. Army with a rank of Tech SGT. from 1942 until 1946. Mr. Prime was a life member of the Fort Plain VFW Earl Stock Memorial Post #3275. He enjoyed taking care of his yard and gardening. Merritt married Lily Mihuka on June 5, 1948 in Little Falls, NY. She preceded him in death in 1973. He was also predeceased by five brothers, William Jr., Sidney, Emory, Howard and Herman Prime; and one sister, Ethel Burns. Mr. Prime is survived by his son, John M. and Patricia Prime of Canajoharie, NY; a daughter, Lesia and Robert Thaisz of Gloversville, NY; sisters, Mabel Cook of St. Johnsville, NY and Marion Cook of Palatine Bridge, NY. Also surviving are grandchildren, Kelly Prime of Canajoharie, NY, Maxwell Prime of Canajoharie, NY, Jill Thaisz of West Lake, OH, Peter Thaisz of Albany, NY; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
