Mr. Dorr A. Eacker, 89, of East Main Street, Nelliston, New York, died Late Thursday, May 7, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital, following a brief illness with his wife, Nettie, his two nieces, Sheri Orvis, Bonnie Keller, and his step son Lori Grzella by his side. Born on October 4, 1919 in the Town of Springfield, NY, he was the son of Adelbert Eacker, Sr. and Ella Emma Beebe Eacker. He attended Springfield Center High School. Mr. Eacker was employed at the Whedon Gilboa Dam I88 and thruway. He was a tractor trailer driver and heavy equipment operator. Mr. Eacker was also a member of the Union Engineers Local #106. He was a small private lawn care business owner for 10 years. He had been a resident of the Fort Plain area for over 30 years, moving to the area in 1978. Previously Mr. Eacker resided in Little Falls for over 40 years. Mr. Eacker served in the U.S. Navy during WWII on the Merchant Ship at Atlantic and the USS Barber-Destroyer. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He was of Methodist faith. Mr. Eacker was a member of the American Legion #554 in Fort Plain, the VFW Earl Stock Memorial Post #3275 in Fort Plain, and the Loyal Order of the Moose #853 of Canajoharie. He was a former member of the Canajoharie/Fort Plain Elks Lodge #2621. He at one time was also trustee of the Village Board in Fort Plain. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing cards and baseball. On February 14, 1986 he was married to Nettie Lane in Hinesville, NY. In addition to his wife, Nettie Eacker of Nelliston, NY, Mr. Eacker is survived by his step-sons, Lori Grzella of Little Falls, NY, Mark Grzella of Little Falls, NY; brothers, Adelbert Eacker, Jr. of Nelliston, NY, Charles Clifford Eacker of Schenectady, NY, Richard Eacker of Amsterdam, NY; sisters, Carol Dillenbeck of Nelliston, NY, Roseann Edwards of South Glens Falls, NY; brother-in-law, Jason Lane of Schenectady, NY; a very special niece, Emily Douglas of Nelliston, NY; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Eacker is predeceased by three brothers, Orville L. Eacker, Sr., Elwyn J. Eacker and Walter George Eacker.
