Iva Mae Beers Purdy, 94, of Old Meadow Road, St. Johnsville, New York, died Friday evening, May 8, 2009 at Mountain Valley Hospice House in Gloversville, New York where she had been a patient since April 29, 2009. Mrs. Purdy was born October 27, 1914 in East Norwalk, Connecticut, the daughter of the late Howard and Lillian Fox Beers. She was educated in East Norwalk, Connecticut public schools and she chose, as her vocation, to work in the office of a local attorney. She greatly enjoyed that experience and continued in the attorney's employ until she was married. They moved to the area and worked with her husband on their small farm. She was a mother and homemaker. Her hobbies include flower and vegetable gardens, animals and shopping. She was a loving and giving person. On June 24, 1934, she married Charles Walter Purdy in Connecticut. He predeceased her on January 4, 1984. She is also predeceased by two sisters, Frances Beers, and Verna Jostrand. She was also predeceased by a nephew, Ted Jostrand. Mrs. Purdy is survived by her sons, David and his wife Shirley Purdy and Frederick Styles Purdy all of St. Johnsville, two grandchildren, Matthew and his wife Judytte Purdy of Upper Marlboro, Maryland and Elisabeth Purdy of Severn, Maryland, a great-grand daughter, Aaliyah Purdy of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, a special nephew, William and his wife Mary Dunn of Old Orchard Beach, Maine, her special nieces, Mary Jostrand of Woodford, Vermont and Jacqueline Davis of Orlando, Florida and a great nephew Eric and his wife Cimberly Jostrand from Shelton, Connecticut.
