Mr. George W. Arzberger, 70, of Northern Terrace, Fort Plain, New York, died Friday, May 22, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam, New York following a long illness. He was born on June 2, 1938 in Queens, New York, the son of George V. and Elizabeth Gagg Arzberger. Mr. Arzberger was a graduate of Queens High School; he resided in Schenectady for a time, living in Fort Plain since 1976. He started working at Arnold Bakery and then went to on work at Freihofer's in 1972 where he retired after 30 years with the company. On February 17, 1979, he married Phyllis A. Reed at the Old Reinhart House in Fort Plain, New York. Mr. Arzberger was a member of the Fort Plain Reformed Church where he was a member of the church choir, a deacon of the church and a past member of the church consistory. He was also a member of the Mohawk Valley Chorus and an active member of the Fort Plain Senior Citizens. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis A. Arzberger of Fort Plain, New York, his mother, Elizabeth Arzberger of Round Lake, New York, his son, James Arzberger and his wife Andrea of Ridgewood, New York, his brothers, Gary Arzberger and his wife Lorraine of Queens, New York, Kenneth Arzberger and his wife Carol of Albany, New York, and Warren Arzberger and his wife Terry of Round Lake, New York. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Sarah Arzberger, his grandson, Andrew James Arzberger, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
