Mrs. Jean A. Ward, 81 lifelong resident of her home on Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on early Saturday morning May 28, 2022. Jean was born in Albany, NY November 12, 1940, the daughter of the late Victor Phetteplace and Doris Strobel Petteplace. She was a graduate of Canajoharie high School, Class of 1958. Most recently she had been working as a receptionist at the palatine nursing home, for the past 10 years. Prior to that she was a human resource officer at CNB/NBT bank for 19 years. She also volunteered and served as a Trustee, Secretary, and Treasurer though her many years of serve to the Ames Cemetery Association. In her spare time, she enjoyed following stock car racing, ceramics, riding with Kathy looking for deer and watching birds. In July 1961 she married James Ward, a union that lasted 50 years until his passing on December 29, 2012. She was also preceded by her grandson Aaron Ward in 1993, and her brothers Neil Phetteplace and Sister Eileen Dievendorf. Survivors include two sons; Jeff and his wife Lisa Ward, Jerry, and his wife Sandra Ward; daughter Julie and Louis Rush; sisters Mary Krug, and sister-in-law Judith Ann Phetteplace, seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family invites friends and relatives to calling hours on Wednesday June 1, 2022, from 4:00-7:00PM at Houghtaling and Smith Funeral Home, 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, Ny 13317. A private funeral service and burial will take place later at Ames Cemetery in accordance with Jean’s wishes.
