Please share a memory of Rene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mr. René C. Roser, 87, of Freysbush Road, Fort Plain, New York died Monday, December 14, 2020 at Little Falls Hospital, following a brief illness. Born in 1933 in Amsterdam, NY, he was the son of Carl Roser and Maria Stuhler. René was a graduate of Fort Plain High School, Class of 1951. He obtained his bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Hartwick, then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. While in the Marines, he was given a teaching assignment and that is how he found his love of teaching. In 1959, René obtained his master’s degree in education from The University at Albany. On August 19, 1961, he found another love and married Susan Nagle of New Lebanon, New York. René began his education career at Bethlehem Central School in Delmar teaching history. He always wanted to return to the Fort Plain/Canajoharie area and had an opportunity to teach history at Canajoharie Schools. He started in the Junior High and after a couple of years moved to Canajoharie High School, where he retired in 1990. History and teaching were his passions and he seldom thought of them as work. René enjoyed raising his children, working the family property, gardening, and camping with family and friends on the islands of Lake George and Saranac Lake. He enjoyed playing racket ball, basketball, golf and tennis. With Sue, he took various trips to Germany to visit relatives and his parent’s homeland. He loved vacationing with his family in the Outer Banks and Bonita Beach. He also enjoyed visiting his fraternity brothers (TKE) at their annual clam bake. Being an avid reader, René was always in touch with history and politics and his family truly enjoyed his wisdom and knowledge. He was always a good friend with a great sense of humor. We love him and he will be missed by us all. He was predeceased by his mother, father, and sister, Stephanie Roser. René is survived by his wife of 59 years, Susan Roser of Fort Plain, NY; son Carl Roser of Cohoes, NY; daughter Laura Roser of Westerlo, NY; grandson Zackary LaPorta (Colleen) of Colonie, NY; and his nieces, Aimee Lane and Nicole Conti of Atlanta, GA. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, July 31 from 11:00-1:00PM at the family home, 671 Freysbush Road, Fort Plain, NY 13339 where Military Honors will be rendered at 12:30.
