Obituary of Rosalyn M. Hawver

Please share a memory of Rosalyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mrs. Rosalyn M. Hawver, 86, formerly of Fort Plain and a resident of Palatine Nursing Home for 20 months, went home to be with her Lord in heaven after the midnight hours on May 14, 2020, joining her husband and lifetime mate, Rev. Carl E. Hawver, who predeceased her on November 16, 2018. Rosalyn was born on September 22, 1933 in Cobleskill, NY, the daughter of Raymond C. Brown and Tressie Hotaling Brown. She was a graduate of Cobleskill Central School in June 1952, growing up in the Cobleskill area. She met her husband, Carl, at the then Warnerville Roller Skating Rink, of which they enjoyed many times together there. Rosalyn and Carl married on December 19, 1953 at the Hyndsville Methodist Church, Hyndsville, NY, and shared a beautiful lifetime in marriage of 64 years. Mrs. Hawver was a devoted loving wife to her husband, the true essence of a godly helpmate. Her joy in life was serving first the God whom she loved, then serving her husband, children, family and friends, and grandchildren. She was a homemaker ‘extraordinaire’ with many talents. She was gifted in the area of crocheting, creating countless one-of-a-kind doilies, tablecloths, pillowcase and handkerchief edgings. She was also talented in sewing, horticulture, cooking, baking, and playing the piano. Mrs. Hawver also loved to take camping trips with her husband and family in past years. She loved to bake cookies and give them out to others, along with her beautiful loving smile. In earlier years, she sewed at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City, NY, did home-cleaning for others, but her greatest love and devotion was to her husband. Her great loving heart was a testimony to us all. Survivors include her beloved and only son, Paul, and his wife, Kathe Hawver of Johnstown, NY; her beloved and only daughter, Rhonda, and her husband, Kelly Holcombe of Canajoharie, NY; 5 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She also has 2 nieces, Lynn and Denise of Auburn, NY, and nieces, Martha and Rachel; nephew, Johnathan of Canajoharie. Her granddaughter, Jeena; brother, Louis R. Brown; 2 sisters-in-law predeceased her. A memorial service of remembrance will be held at a later date and a private burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda, NY. Local arrangements have been entrusted to Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317.
