Mr. Alan J. Krutz, 62, of River Street, Nelliston, New York died Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Little Falls Hospital. Born on March 1, 1955 in Amsterdam, NY, he was the beloved son of Milton Krutz and Betty Waufle Krutz. He was a graduate of Canajoharie High School, Class of 1973 and was a lifelong area resident. Alan started out his career with the Courier Standard Enterprise in Fort Plain as a writer and reporter. He was known as the Rovering Reporter. He also worked for Frame Direct, building senior housing and Bill Lake Homes as an electrician. He served in the United States Air Force for a short period of time. He was of Protestant faith. Mr. Krutz loved flying, starting with balsa models, and rockets. In fifth grade he won the High School Science Fair for his rocket display. Two months after his 14th birthday he soloed in a glider. He was the youngest in the state to do so. Two years later he was flying solo in air planes. He liked to build model air planes and belonged to the Lazy 8RC Club in Johnstown. He also enjoyed hiking, camping, and backpacking. His mother, Betty Waufle Krutz and brother, Brian Scott Krutz also predeceased him. Mr. Krutz is survived by his father and step-mother, Milton and Barbara Krutz of Canajoharie, NY; brothers, Duane and Sue Krutz of Colorado, Shawn and Anne Krutz of Mayfield, NY, Darrin Krutz of Fort Plain, NY; step-sisters, Linda and Scott Blomquist of Florida, Donna DeLuca of Clifton Park, NY, Julie and John Washburn of Gloversville, NY, Laurie and Tom Weingart of St. Johnsville, NY; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at 7:00pm at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317 with Rev. Wayne Cole officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 5:00-7:00pm at the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Mr. Alan J. Krutz may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, Memorial & Honor Program-F, 501 St. Jude's Place, TN 38105-1905.
