Mr. David A. VanAlstine, 74, of Wagners Hollow Road, Fort Plain, New York passed away December 30, 2019. Born on August 23, 1945 in Amsterdam, NY, he was the son of Charles D. VanAlstine and Freda Pearl Hayes VanAlstine. He was a graduate of Canajoharie High School and was a lifetime area resident. Mr. VanAlstine was a self-employed contractor, specializing in roofing, and prior to his retirement he worked at Schenectady County Community College as a Security Officer. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving in Korea, obtaining the rank of Sergeant. He was of Dutch Reformed faith. Mr. VanAlstine was a member of the VFW in Fonda. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. His son, Dan VanAlstine predeceased him. Mr. VanAlstine is survived by his sons, Mark and Brenda VanAlstine of Canajoharie, David VanAlstine of Fonda; daughters, Antasia VanAlstine of Fort Plain, Kathleen VanAlstine of Gloversville, Colleen VanAlstine of Florida; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 3, 2020 at 11:00AM at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday from 10:00-11:00AM at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda.
