Obituary of Catherine M. Pitt

Mrs. Catherine M. “Cathey” Pitt, 71, of West Ames Road, Canajoharie, New York passed away Thursday evening, June 27, 2019 at Bassett Healthcare of Cooperstown following a long illness, with her family by her side.

Born on November 27, 1947 in Oneonta, NY, she was the daughter of Robert Mackey and Dorothy Jones Mackey.  She was a graduate of Schoharie High School, Class of 1966.  She spent most of her life in the local area.

Mrs. Pitt enjoyed caring for others.  She ran a daycare for many years and later worked with the elderly as a nurse’s aide at Marchand Manor and other local facilities.

She was of Baptist faith.

Mrs. Pitt loved to knit and spend time with her family.  She also enjoyed communicating with friends online and going to flea markets.

On June 15, 1968 at the Lutheran Church in Central Bridge, NY, Cathey was married to Lionel A. Pitt.

Mrs. Pitt is survived by her husband of over 51 years, Lionel A. Pitt of Canajoharie, NY; children, Rebecca and Gary Bevins of Canajoharie, NY, Matthew and Tammy Pitt of Canajoharie, NY, Corena and Jimmy New of Katy, TX, Darryl Pitt of Texas; brothers, Donnie Mackey, Jerry Mackey; sister, Robbie Kennedy; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins; and her beloved cat, Misty.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at 10:00AM at The Chapel of Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY.  The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, July 1, 2019 from 7:00-9:00PM at the funeral home.  Burial will take place in Ames Cemetery.
