Obituary of Evelyn B. Lindley

Mrs. Evelyn B. Lindley, 90, formerly of Darrow Road, Sprakers, New York passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at Palatine Nursing Home.

Born on October 3, 1928, in the Town of Glen, NY, she was the daughter of William and Belle Hazzard Becker, both of whom predeceased her.  She was a graduate of Canajoharie High School, Class of 1945.  Following graduation she was to work in the Templeton Glove Shop.

After marrying Ralph Simpson, they moved to Genesee County where they operated a dairy farm until he was taken ill.  They then relocated back to their new home on Darrow Road in Currytown where Ralph passed away in 1976.  On December 10, 1977, she married Alfred Lindley, who passed away in April 1997.

Evelyn was a lifelong member of the Currytown Reformed Church since 1945, where she served as Deacon since 1977, Elder since 2008, and as Treasurer since 1978.  She was a member of the former Mid-County Volunteer Ambulance Service, where she served as Dispatcher, as well as an Officer and Director of the Board.  She served as Town of Root Councilwoman since January 1, 1992 until June 13, 2018.

Her sister, Doris Fredericks predeceased her.

Mrs. Lindley is survived by her nephew, Edward (Karen) Fredericks of Currytown; nieces, Patricia Fredericks of Canajoharie, NY, Debra Rathbun of Tribes Hill, NY, Pamela (Rodney) Bouchoux of Gloversville, NY; in addition to several cousins.

A graveside service will be conducted at the Maple Avenue Cemetery in Fultonville, at a later date.  Funeral arrangements are being handled by Houghtaling & Smith Funeral Home, Inc., 20 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY.
